THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
Although
our name is similar, there is no connection between the United
Church of Christ and the Church of Christ.
The
United Church of Christ is one of the newest mainline Protestant
denominations, but it dates back to the 15th century Reformation
and the arrival of the Pilgrims America in the 17th century.
The
United Church of Christ was created when the Evangelical and
Reformed Church united with the Congregation Christian Church in
1957.
St. Paul
United Church of Christ is the
only United Church of Christ in Corpus Christi, Texas - although
there are over ninety UCC Churches in Texas and Louisiana and
over 6,200 congregations throughout the nation.

BELIEFS
-
We believe that Jesus Christ, son of
God and Savior, is the sole head of the church.
-
We believe that everyone who
believes that Jesus is the son of God and Savior is our
Brother and Sister in Christ.
-
We look
to the word of God in the Scriptures, but we are not
literalist. The Bible is Holy because it was inspired,
not written by God.
-
We believe that the Bible, though
written in specific historical times and places, still speaks
to us in our present condition.
-
We believe that the study of
Scriptures is not limited by past interpretations, but that
the spirit can provide new insights and help for living today.
-
We believe in testimonies of faith
rather than tests of faith. Because faith can be
expressed in many different ways, the UCC has no formula that
is a test of faith.
-
We believe in the priesthood of all
believers in that all members of the UCC are called to
minister to others and to participate as equals in the common
worship of God.
-
We celebrate two Sacraments -
Baptism, primarily infant; and the Lord's Supper, which is an
Open Table - all people are welcome. We celebrate
Communion on the First and Third Sundays of every month.
-
We are a church that is
intentionally inclusive to all people and spiritually
progressive and creative.
